Loadout
The four bays
Weapon choices are role-based. No weapon statistics have been published, so treat them as starting points rather than optimised picks.
Bay 1
Custom Operator
Scoundrelrifle
The setup piece. Identify Weakness flags a target to take a critical hit on the next attack.
Bay 2
Sharpshooterlongarm
The payoff. A long-range precision specialist that singles out chosen targets is the highest-value place to spend a guaranteed critical.
Bay 4
Custom Operator
Heavyrepeater
Buys the time a long-range setup needs. Without a frontline the enemy closes distance and the Sharpshooter's range advantage disappears.
Reasoning
Why it works
Mechanic by mechanic. Anything stated as confirmed traces to a source listed at the bottom of this page.
- Identify Weakness flags a target to take a critical hit on the next attack — officially confirmed by the developer.
- The Sharpshooter is officially a long-range precision specialist that singles out chosen targets, which makes its attack the largest single hit in most squads.
- Applying a critical to the biggest single hit extracts more value than applying it to several small ones. That is the entire logic of the pairing.
- High ground improves hit chance, so the Sharpshooter's positioning work compounds with the critical setup.
- Hawks' AP support means the Sharpshooter can move to elevation and still attack in the same turn.
Execution
Example opening turn
An AP and Advantage plan. Costs are unpublished, so the order matters more than the exact budget.
- Step 1
Turn 1 — Sharpshooter: spend AP taking high ground before anything else, since hit chance is what the whole plan depends on.
- Step 2
Turn 1 — Heavy: advance to a position that pulls enemy attention away from the elevated Operator.
- Step 3
Turn 1 — Scoundrel: apply Identify Weakness to the enemy that most threatens the squad.
- Step 4
Turn 1 — Sharpshooter: fire on the flagged target. If the attack consumes all AP, this ends the turn.
- Step 5
Turn 1 — Hawks: if Advantage allows, restore an AP to the Sharpshooter for a reposition out of the firing line.
Strengths
- Both halves of the synergy are officially confirmed.
- Removes a single high-threat enemy before it acts, which is the cheapest form of damage prevention.
- Scales naturally with high ground, a confirmed hit-chance bonus.
- Clear, readable turn structure — flag, then fire.
Weaknesses
- Whether Identify Weakness guarantees the critical or only raises the chance is not officially stated.
- Developers say line of sight and mission structure limit pure sniper strategies, so the Sharpshooter is map-dependent.
- If the Sharpshooter's attack consumes all AP, a miss costs the entire turn.
- Poor against swarms — one big hit does not answer Outlaws overwhelming with numbers.
Alternatives
Safer and more aggressive versions
Including what to do when an authored Operator in this squad is permanently lost.
- Safer
- Swap the Scoundrel for a Medic. You lose the critical setup but gain Injury prevention, which matters more when the squad has to hold a position while the Sharpshooter sets up.
- More aggressive
- Swap the Heavy for an Assault. The Assault flushes enemies out of cover into the Sharpshooter's line rather than waiting for them to come, but the squad loses its damage sink.
- If Luco Bronc is unavailable
- Any Custom Operator with the Sharpshooter Specialization fills the role — the synergy is class-based, not character-based.
How this will be verified
Re-test in the retail build, recording version, platform and difficulty, then update the status label from theorycraft to tested. Specifically: confirm whether Identify Weakness guarantees a critical hit or increases critical chance, and record whether a Longarm attack consumes all remaining AP.
